1. Keep Morning Routines Consistent
Now that you’ve had a few days to practice, it’s worth fine-tuning your mornings. Try to keep wake-up times, breakfast, and getting-out-the-door routines consistent. Predictability helps children feel secure, and it makes mornings less hectic for everyone.
Small touches go a long way:
Let your child choose their breakfast from two healthy options
Play their favorite upbeat song while getting ready
Give them a goodbye ritual (a hug, a high-five, a silly handshake)
2. Talk About Their Day (Without the Interrogation)
When you ask, “How was your day?” and get the classic “Fine” or “I don’t remember,” it’s normal, especially in these early weeks. Try more specific prompts:
“What was the funniest thing that happened today?”
“Who did you sit next to at snack time?”
“What’s something new you learned?”
These little conversations help your child process their experiences and build a stronger connection between home and school.
3. Balance Rest and Activity After School
After a full day of learning, some children need to run off energy, while others need quiet time to recharge. Watch your child’s cues and aim for a balance. A short outdoor play session, followed by a calm activity like reading or drawing, can be a perfect combo.
